Being a part of Misfits Day -4
Hello Everyone ,
This is the fourth day of me posting the key learnings which i am able to derive out of a classes of Misfits. I took two sessions today i.e Geography and History . My key learnings are ;
Geography :
- Previously , we have discussed about what is physical geography? Now we'll learn about the important aspects of Physical Geography which helps in the creation of external features of the earth and also get influenced by some forces .
- Basically ,we discussed about two forces which are continuously in action which means that the landscape of an area is continuously changing .
- Those two forces are Endogenic force i.e the type of force which shapes the landscape of earth from inside and Exogenic forces i.e the type of force which shapes the landscape of earth from outside. Examples of Endogenic forces are seismic activities , movement of plate tectonics etc . Examples of Exogenic forces are high temperature , running water , wind etc .
- The thing which I have observed is endogenic forces are mainly responsible for the creation of landscape but on the other hand exogenic forces acts as a "wearing down" force which erodes the existing landcape. For eg ; Weathering of rocks and turning that rocks into fine particles of soil like alluvial soil , Karst topography as discussed .
- In order to study the interior of the earth , we have very limited resources but by observing some natural features we can surely form some conjectures like volcanoes , Meteors etc . The lava which erupts out of volcano comes from a greater depth of the earth and hence can explain the properties of earth once comes out . Meteors are small celestial bodies and earth is also one of the celestial so there are higher that they might share some common properties with each other.
History :
In this session , we discussed what is the historical importace of India's geography and divided the whole India into three parts:
- The Himalayas : No doubt himalayas , acted as barriers physically and climatically too and did not provided easy access of India to invaders but passes present in himalyas did provide an access to people who wants to come to india with their strategic interests like trade .
- Indo-Gangetic plain : This plain is wholely irrigated by rivers and formed by the rivers originated in the himalayas . When those rivers flows downwards , they bring large amount of silt , soil , clay , pebbles along with them and the accumulation of these particles lead to the formation of Indo Gangetic Plain . It is highly fertile in nature due to the presence of alluvial soil and it has been considered to be a strategic advantage and as we dig deep into the history we have founded that the civilisations used to thrive around the river and there were many wars which have been fought there due to easy access of water for agriculture , trade etc.
- Southern Peninsula : Vindhya and Satpura ranges are the two major ranges found in southern Peninsula which isloates the southern India from the rest of the India that's why we see many cultural differences between northern and southern part. To the south of the Satpura range , there is a deccan plateau sorrounded by Western and Eastern Ghats . Deccan Plateau has been formed by the volcanic rocks which are soft and can easily be cut , this is the reason we see the rock cut style architecture there . for eg - Ajanta and Ellora caves in Maharashtra.
Then , we proceeded towards the exploration of Pre history period and we discussed about the four ages - Palaeolithic age (old stone age ) , Mesolithic age , Neolithic age , Chalcolithic or metal age .
That's all from my side today !
Thank you !
