Being a part of Misfits Day -3
Hello Everyone ,
This is the third day of me posting a key learning which i am able to derive out of a classes of Misfits. I took two sessions today i.e Geography and History . My key learnings are ;
Geography :
In previous blog , we have discussed about the relevance of geography in a syllabus of UPSC . Today we will learn about one of the most important branch of geography i.e. Physical Geography . Generally, Physical means something which can be learned by just looking at external features and this applies in physical geography as well . Whenever you praise Himalayas ,talk about the nature of oceans and sea or maybe wondering about the beauty of Western Ghats , you are doing nothing but looking at the examples of physical geography.
But now the question arises, why physical geography is important for effective governance ?
From my point of view , the reasons could be as follows :
- Physical geography is something which gives insights of the structure, relief , climate and terrain of a place so it becomes crucial for a civil servant to know about it all in order to deal with problems which may happen in future , and preventing them by founding the suitable solution.
- As a civil servant , we have to serve the people and we must know to do it in a best possible way by making suitable policies which can be effectively implemented. For eg : Dry region of Rajasthan faces lack of rainfall and hence water shortage so we can set up and implement the policies or method of water conservation in action OR a region which is prone to floods or any other climatic conditions could be helped by setting up of dynamic disaster management plan .
- When we try to understand the meaning of history , one word quickly comes in our mind which is the past and past or we can say history teaches us backgrounds of the civilisations , leaders , common people , policies which directly helps us in understanding the current scenario in respect with past events . It also helps in understanding the geological , political , cultural and economic aspect of an area.
